Infotrac
Application using the pen technology to capture data at
source
.
Infotrac uses Datatrac’s digital pen solution to collect data once only and distribute the data into management reports and systems without duplication or arduous data entry into a computer.
The operator uses the digital pen to write on report forms which have been pre-printed onto “smart” paper. The paper is covered with a unique system of small dots; the pen has a video camera placed under the nib and the pen strokes are accurately positioned on the report form by a navigational fix by means of the nib’s position in relation to the dots.
In addition to the video camera the pen incorporates a computer mother board and a battery. The pen is capable of storing up to 40 separate forms at any one time. As the operator collects information he records it using the pen. When the pen is placed in its docking station which is attached to a computer and data immediately downloaded
The Datatrac software uses character recognition to produce a digital version of the original form.
For verification purposes the original form with handwriting and the digital version are shown side by side.
Once accepted by the operator as correct the data is imported into the Datatrac management database where
it is available to be sorted, analysed or exported in an excel spreadsheet format to be introduced to
any other system where the information is required.
The report form itself is capable of storage in its original form as well as forming part of a data collection process for a much wider set of data input.
The Infotrac program saves operator time in the collection of accurate information and avoids an operator having to key information into forms on a computer several hours after observations or activities have taken place. The ease of use ensures that tasks are completed rather than being delayed due to lack of time.
